Monthly Report of Forum Activity

Greetings, everyone!

As promised at the end of the community review period, the weekly reports would become monthly reports. Below are the stats from August 2022.

For the month of August, the Forum had 280 active users, of which 80% (or 224 users) were non-WMF. “Active users” as defined by Discourse is “all users visited and read at least one topic in the given time interval.”

The graph below compares the # of users from June onwards (June is the first full month we had data for).

  • New Users: new account registrations
  • Daily Engaged Users: number of users who have posted or reacted to a post during that time
  • New Contributors: users who posted for the first time

For the month of October, the Forum had a total of 682 users, comprising 182 active users, of which 78.6% (or 143 users) were non-WMF. “Active users” as defined by Discourse is “all users who visited and read at least one topic in the given time interval.”

Can we have the breakdown of what percent of unique posters were WMF? That’s probably a better definition of non-WMF activity than people who read one post.

Hi! Are you referring to Daily Engaged Users or New Contributors, or which metric in particular? Thanks in advance for the clarity!

I think the most interesting metric would be the number of unique people that either created a post or added a post to a thread over the month, broken out by WMF and non-WMF accounts.

Understood! @Qgil-WMF just ran the query and unfortunately, it only allows us to track the last 30 days, so I will add that to my list of metrics on Dec 1 to run for the month of November.

In the meantime, roughly, in the month of October, there were 72 posters, 22 of whom have WMF in their username, which is about 30.6% of the total posters.

For the month of November, the Forum had a total of 732 users, comprising 194 active users, of which 82.9% (or 161 users) were non-WMF. “Active users” as defined by Discourse is “all users who visited and read at least one topic in the given time interval.” The number of users who create new topics for the month of November is 73, of which 19 are associated with Wikimedia (including affiliates) and 54 are volunteers.

Hi and happy new month of August to all,

This report covers the period from 01 April to 31 July. The reporting for these months was delayed due to issues accessing some comparator data for the regional distribution of users.

As of August 1st 2023, the Forum had a total of 840 users. 93 were “active” in April, of which 77% (or 72 users) were not from the Wikimedia Foundation. 97 were “active” in May, of which 77% (or 75 users) were not from the Foundation. 43 were “active” in June, of which 69% (or 30 users) were not from the Foundation and 75 were “active” in July of which 76 % (or 57 users) were not from the Foundation.

“Active users” as defined by Discourse is “all users who visited and read at least one topic in the given time interval.”

The number of users who create new topics in April is 10 of which 6 are Foundation staff. In May, 14 users created new topics, including 2 Foundation staff and 1 affiliate staff. In June, 3 users created new topics including 1 affiliate staff and in July, 28 users created new topics, including 10 Foundation staff and 2 affiliates staff.
