Dear African Wikimedians, Have people heard about the RfC? What is going to happen if the vote succeeds? Will fundraising ads be blocked from English Wikipedia? How much do we make from English Wikipedia banner fundraising? And should the fundraising take a hit, won’t it affect projects on our continent?
@Zuz_WMF , I applaud your initiation of the topic above. I hope this forum will serve exactly the purpose that you lay out above, namely, to promote creative collaboration across our entire community, as well as on a regional basis, whereever it would be beneficial to do so.
@Zuz_WMF Yes. last year, some of my team members and I together with some members from our Community (Wikimedians of Twi Language Community) were on the call, we are ready to join the call again this year.
Voting on the ratification of the UCoC enforcement guidelines is still ongoing. Votes will be accepted until 23:59 on January 31, 2023 (UTC) Here are some interesting statistics of language communities in SSA:
Out of 38 eligible voters in Hausa Wikipedia, only 4 people have voted
Out of 25 eligible voters in Swahili Wikipedia, only 1 person has voted
Out of 10 eligible voters in Dagbani Wikipedia, none has voted yet.
Out of 9 eligible voters in Igbo Wikipedia, only 4 people have voted
Out of 7 eligible voters in Yoruba Wikipedia, none have noted yet.
Congratulations to the Igbo Wikimedians Community, which has had a good turnout of voters so far. If you haven’t voted yet, please do so here.
76% in support of the Enforcement Guidelines, and 24% in opposition.
Statistics for the vote are available here . The results and comments collected during this vote will be submitted to the Board of Trustees for their review. The current expectation is that the Board of Trustees review process will complete in March 2023.
