Update on the Movement Strategy Forum

Update on the Movement Strategy Forum

Hello everyone,

The MS forum was launched in June 2022. At the time, there was a commitment made to monitor whether this platform would meet its intended goals.

We have been keeping an eye on the Forum’s usage and adoption and the data shows continuous low usage and lack of engagement.

You can read more about the usage statistics here and the lessons that have been learned.

We will be archiving the MS forum beginning April 2025 and reinvesting savings - both financial and time - in on-wiki discussion spaces.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me on mpossoupe@wikimedia.org or post on the talk page.

Thank you all for your understanding.

@MPossoupe_WMF ,
thanks for letting us know. i was hoping the forums might get more use.

So, again, another missed opportunity of escaping from the terrible discussion system a wiki page is. Sad.

It is a pity to see it go away, but also how much of resources wasted, not just WMF funds to pay for running it, but also staff and especially volunteer time…

Again very very few learning points and 7day long exit is kind of illustrative of absence of good approach with the care.

I discovered this forum late enough (a month or so ago) and I’m sad to see it go without archiving what I expected it could be. Would have been quite a neat format to discuss and organize, but without an active community, there is no point.

@Xandru4 I felt exactly that over Wikimedia Space that @Qgil-WMF initiated… Unfortunatly history kind of repeated itself as Wikimedia Foundation and some of the key Wikimedia communities were not aligned perfectly so instead of finding each other mid-way and/or inviting external mediators/facilitators it looks like sabotaging each other remained the modus operandi :-/ of course at the exspanse of those who are least informed, represented, equipted and resourced.
